Carpets for Life

May 21, 2016

With the multitude of carpet types and styles on the market, not to mention the plethora of vinyl and laminate flooring products, you could be forgiven for feeling overwhelmed.

Choosing the right carpet for every room in your home makes a massive difference to how you feel about it, so it’s important to know what your options might be.

We’re going to try to use some of our 40 years’ experience as Bournemouth’s premier carpet and flooring showroom and supplier to help you along by sharing our recommendations for common domestic situations.

Kids…

With children, mess inevitably follows. Play and exploration lead to little accidents and spills, not all of them pleasant or easy to deal with.

You need something that has built-in durability and is easily kept clean. For this, you can can’t beat wool. It’s natural, is intrinsically stain-resistant and comes the guarantee of being soft underfoot, perfect for little feet, and also protecting against those inevitable bumps.

And Pets…

Most people with pets wouldn’t go near a carpet for fear it being pulled (and ruined), or the never ending fur deposits, preferring instead to go down the laminate flooring route. The good news is, as long as you avoid the loop pile (claws easily get caught, often resulting in expensive trips to the vet) and go for berber, or even twist, you should be fine.

Both are paw-friendly, hardwearing and easy to take care of.

Just the two of us…

This could be the first foray into domesticity, or maybe, the family have flown the nest, so to speak. It’s time to consider the look more than the practicalities, add a touch of decadence and warmth to a room that’s now low-traffic.

A dense pile will always add that little bit of luxury, retain heat, feel great underfoot and look great. If this is the look you want to create, you should try velvet or Saxony.

Velvet is a softer, smoother type of carpet, that goes particularly well in your bedroom or perhaps, a more formal sitting room, reserved for special visitors.

Saxony carpets also give that soft feeling and, again, is a popular choice for bedrooms but is, in general not suitable for busier areas like the stairs or hallway.

Don’t Skimp

In a previous article, we discussed the value of a good underlay and, whatever carpet you choose, we can’t stress enough how important we believe it to be. A good underlay will pay for itself again and again, in terms of helping to minimise noise from the children upstairs or minimise heat loss. Choose wisely, choose appropriately – and if in doubt, ask us, it’s all part of the service.

Whatever your situation, we at QCF Bournemouth can help, with expert advice, professional fitters and great prices for over 40 years, no wonder we’re Bournemouth’s Quality Carpet & Flooring specialist and we look forward to serving you.
